Our programs >>> Arts for development & social change

Arts play an important role in educating the community on various social, economic and political issues apart from entertainment. It is more effective in all aspects of edutainment as it identifies with the values and daily happenings in the community. It therefore acts as a mirror of what transpires in the society, giving room for learning and self-assessment. Arts remain the unique way to address developmental issues because anyone can be creative and share that with others, even in settings of low-to-zero literacy and also because the arts can convey messages which all can comprehend and understand. Means of visual and auditory enables arts to communicate powerful messages. Participatory Interactive Media Model (PIMM) is one of the innovative and effective ways of reaching out to the masses. Through arts, KCYP will educate the community on issues such as: HIV/AIDS, peace, development, drug abuse, corruption and civic awareness.

This will be done through the composition of plays/skits, songs, poems, dance and narrations, tailor-made to specific audiences and issues at hand. Currently KCYP implements a community theatre program on cross generation relation and abstinence in Lang’atta Constituency:

  • Piloting a music recording initiative for Kibera young artistes known as G-Clan composing songs with social messages to educate the youth

  • Receives invitations to perform at specific functions
